最近ドイツ在住の二人の日本人のお子さんと、メキシコ在住の日本人のビジネスマンの方に英語をオンラインで教えております。ドイツのお子さんはインターナショナルスクールへ通っているので授業はほぼ英語で行っています。ビジネスマンの方は日々の業務で困っていて真剣に習いたいとのこと。
こんなことひと昔前までは考えられませんでした。コロナの流行が始まった頃、スカイプレッスンを提供するという決断に至った時は対面レッスンで指導していた生徒のためのものでした。それが今は国境を越えてしまいました。私ははテクノロジーの恩恵を受けて仕事ができることに毎日感謝しております。
最初はオンラインレッスンで提供できる質に懐疑的でした。今となっては何の障害もないことが分かりました。コロナが収束してもオンラインレッスンの需要が落ちることはないでしょう。対面希望の方でも組み合わせてハイブリッドで受講して頂くことはメリットが大きいと思います。移動時間を節約できるのが一番大きいですね。
Recently I have been teaching English online to two Japanese children living in Germany and a Japanese businessman living in Mexico. The children go to an international school, so most of the lessons are conducted in English. The businessman has had great trouble getting his idea across to his local colleagues and wants to learn English seriously.
This was unthinkable until a few years ago. When Covid-19 swept across Japan, I was forced to make a decison to offer Skype lessons to my students whom I usually teach face-to-face at Esteem School of English. Online lessons have crossed national borders. I am thankful every day that I am able to work, fully blessed with the benefits of the state-of-the art technology.
At first, I was skeptical about the quality that online lessons could offer. Now I see that there are no barriers. Even when the Covid-19 pandemic ends, the demand for online lessons will not decrease. Even for those who prefer face-to-face, I think it would be beneficial to combine the two types of lessons, taking a hybrid course. The biggest advantage is that it saves travel time.
